Intriguing New Trends
The sautoir necklace is a big new trend in jewellry accessories this spring and summer. Comprised of a long chain or beaded necklace, and often adorned with tassels from a detachable or permanent pendant similar to a lavalier, but much longer and momentous, this type of necklace was initially created during the turn of the 19th century to mimic military braids or chains. During this time, this neck ornament was looped around the neck and worn like a scarf over one shoulder or down the back. The early 1900′s started a revival of this trend, which continued through the 1920′s with the flapper style. Fashion empires, such as Chanel, have created contemporary replicas of this design with lengthy strands of pearls and “chicklet” necklaces that include finishing touches like rhinestones linked together like chains.
