An exhibition dedicated to the work of one of the most famous fashion designers – Jean Paul Gaultier -will be held at London’s Barbican in April 2014 as part on an international tour. “The English were the first ones to come to my shows and appreciate my fashion,” said Gaultier. “I am super excited that the show is coming to London. If there is one place other than Paris that I should like to live in, it is London.“
This exhibition, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk, will feature over 140 couture and ready-to-wear pieces from throughout the designer’s career, including Madonna’s iconic conical corset, which she wore on stage during her Blonde Ambition tour in 1990. Three other stage costumes designed especially for Madonna and pieces worn by Kylie Minogue and Dita Von Teese will also go on display.
Described as a “dynamic installation“, the exhibition will also include footage of catwalk shows, music videos and films – including clips from Gaultier’s late-night television show, Eurotrash. “I didn’t want the show to be something like a funeral, because for me, to be in a museum, it is for people who are dead,” he added. “I am still alive!“ Check out this video interview of Jean Paul Gaultier’s excitement as he spoke about his exhibition:
