Dark teenage fantasy novels seem to be the source of some of the most successful franchises recently, ever since Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga reached our screens back in 2008. Now, producer Joe Roth has decided to take on Laini Taylor’s fantasy novel Daughter of Smoke and Bone and turn it into a potentially successful teenage franchise; along with the second instalment Days of Blood and Starlight which was released last month.
Roth seems to be the epitome of awesome fantasy storytelling and has a lot of successful narratives under his belt. The producer, dabbled in this year’s Snow White and the Huntsman and has already started to get involved in the sequel, which will be released in 2013. Not to mention, Maleficent and Oz: The Great and Powerful. So if anyone can make this narrative work then it is Roth!
The narrative of the book follows a young girl called Karou, who leads a double life. By day she is an art student living in Prague but by night the teen gets herself caught up in a world of monsters and violence. According to Roth, “In Daughter Of Smoke And Bone, Laini Taylor masterfully tells a story of identity and destiny that welcomes readers into a fantastical world with a unique mythology, it is very different than anything we’ve seen before.”
We are extremely excited about the prospects of this epic teen fantasy so we will keep you all up to date with new developments!
