The New York based singer/rapper Azealia Banks announced yesterday that she has in fact signed a record deal with one of the biggest labels on the planet, Universal. The 19 year old who also goes by the name Miss Bank$ has already been dubbed ‘the one to watch out for’ and has made various media ‘cool lists’.
Azealia Banks tweeted (18/01/2012) that ”God dealt me a really fucked up hand at birth,” she continued with ”Half the shit I’ve been through & successfully gotten through would blow some of your minds. God just dealt me a new hand today.”
After recently releasing successful tracks like ’212′ (featuring Lazy Jay) via the internet, Miss Bank$ has been waiting to make sure she makes the right move when signing to a record label. Bank$ said in a recent interview with Pitchfork that “I want to do this thing– and I don’t even really know what the fuck ‘this thing’ is yet– but considering how ambitious my ideas are musically, I definitely need a label that will really get it out there. I’m not really scared of major labels. I just want to work where I’m allowed to make mistakes and do my own thing rather than get into a situation where someone else has their own agenda of what they want me to be.”
