Not since Take That, back in their sequinned crop top wearing days, has there been such collective British love for a boyband.
My mum, friends and even the guy in my local newsagent (don’t ask!) all have good things to say about those cheeky little scamps; Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall and Zayn who go by the name of One Direction.
Yes it is slightly worrying my 40 (something) year old mother has a crush on Harry, however with their model good looks, who can blame her!
So onto the difficult second single; can it match the success of the number one smash, pop/rock stomper ‘what makes you beautiful‘?
Well on first listen I was disappointed they’d chosen a ballad as a single, however ‘Gotta be you’ was written and produced by ‘hitmaster de jour’ Steve Mac (who has worked with Kelly Clarkson, The Saturday’s, Leona Lewis, The Wanted to name but a few) is one of those rarest of pop songs, a ‘grower’, eg: ‘Fight for this Love’ by Chezza, the queen of growers!
It’s not deep stuff but it is catchy fun that’ll reach the upper echelons of the charts, and after a few spins you too will be crooning ‘it’s gotta be yooooouuu!!!’ imagining Zayn giving you good, in the words of Tyra Banks ,’schmeize’ (smile with your eyes aka come hither eyes!)
Top song by top totty.
