Pop fans from across the South West flooded to Plymouth to see one of the most loved acts around at the moment and were not disappointed, Will Young and Lawson provided a up tempo and well honed evening of music.
Support act Lawson, a new 4-piece band, set the audience up for a fantasic night. Playing a mix of their own songs and covers of some of the hottest tracks at the moment (‘Fireworks’ by Katy Perry standing out in particular). From the short time they graced the stage you could tell that these boys are talented enough to see it through to the top of the industry.
There was absolutley no shadow of a doubt as to who people had ventured to the venue to see though. An eclectic crowd formed from a balanced mix of all ages, sexes and sexuality positively lit up when Will Young came onto the stage, and what a treat they recieved. Since ascending from reality TV Will Young has released album after album of outstanding fare, his most recent offering was another step forward for a man already lengths ahead.
With very few stage props adorning his stage (A door being the stand out) he relied on his sheer talent to sait the crowd and suceeded impeccibly, with reworkings of some of his classic tracks such as ‘Evergreen’ and ‘I Think I Better Leave Right Now’ mixed in amongst songs from his new album such as the absolutely stunning ‘Jealousy’, he played to crowds ever need. As well as offering a great set of music the show allowed Will to demonstrate his witty side, between most songs an anecdote or story being told often reciprocated with a raucous applause.
All in all the gig was an absolute joy to be part of and if you get the chance to see Will Young in the future you’ll not be disappointed.
