Usher – Climax
Usher re-established himself as the king of smooth in 2012 following the release of ‘Climax’, taken from his sixth studio album Looking 4 Myself. Layering synths and sensual beats over the singer’s soulful vocals proved to generate one of the most sexually charged sounds of 2012, even if the lyrics contradicted the overall vibe. It was the unexpected falsetto sections that truly grabbed attention, seeing Usher push his vocals to the limit with a surprisingly resonating effect. Most importantly, the track managed to successfully place the underground beat signatures into mainstream radio playlists – providing a welcome relief from the generic pop that had previously dominated the airwaves.
